[Cosplay Portrait] Shingeki no Kyojin – Krista Lenz

[Cosplay Portrait] Shingeki no Kyojin - Krista Lenz

Cosplayer: Setua (on facebook)

So the last weekend I had the opportunity to come down to ATL and meet up with some cosplay friends to do 2 photoshoots.

This was my most favorite one out of the shoot because I rarely do portrait and/or suck badly at it OUO.

Hope to do more cosplay shoots in the future XD

And again Spring had come…

Gateway to Heaven

It was Spring of 2012, I suddenly realized another Spring had come without me noticing. Again it brought me peace, and escapism. Something about those dancing petals that were so mesmerizing that you wanted nothing but to vanish in its presence. Why is it?

On a side note my allergy was better this year during Spring.

…and if the light shines on me…

ISO 200, 25mm, f/4.0, 1/40

Sometimes it is fun to push the limit of what a photograph can do, aside from just recording the “real” image.

I can’t ever stand warm tones. A warm picture burns me to ashes. It might be my weakness, yes. But I don’t see anything warm in this world. Well, aside from that damn summer sun that makes me stay indoors all day long.
Yep, so maybe this is as warm as I can go without burning myself

Tones sure does affect the emotions of the photograph. And I am satisfied with the outcome, a refreshing change after cold photographs all the time.

Another flower I know not of its name.

Winter Sonata

Kinda out of order, Spring then Winter. But well, who cares XD?

Disclaimer: I’m not a music-theory person. I researched the terms and put them in order. So if you have a problem with how improper the titles are, according to your professional ideas, well, I don’t really give a darn. The pictures are mine, so are the titles. That’s all I’ve got to say

The series is called Winter Sonata. The titles are put in order of a sonata’s movements, the only twist is there’re two slow movements that make up the four-part sonata instead of three.

Title: Allegro

Title: Adagio

Title: Andante

Title: Finale

120110 Macro Photography

ISO 3200, 55mm, f/5.6, 1/100sec

Title: CLASSIC

This shot was entirely manual. After experiencing with Macro, I found out it might be suitable for a different type of lens, just not the the one I was using. Anyhow, manual is always my first choice since I can manipulate the exposure better.

Post-processing includes filling in more light, pushing the blacks a little bit more, and also pushing the grains to fit with the atmosphere of a black and white photograph

ISO 6400, 55mm, f/5.6, 1/60 sec

Title: “And love itself is just as brief as a candle in the wind. It is pure white, just like sin…”

Also shot in manual mode. Post-processing includes pushing the grains and exposure to produce a high-key photograph. This one is more conceptual than getting the exposure right. I got inspired by the song A love suicide to express the idea of a brief beauty, which is what flowers are 🙂

It seems most of us students had to use cropping since we don’t have decent equipment for macro shots XD

Sunrise Shoot

ISO 200, f/8.0, 1/800 sec

Time shot: around 7:55 in the morning

I enjoy the slowly ascending direction of trees and buildings :). Some cropping was done at the bottom of the picture. Otherwise it is presented as shot

In addition, I’d like to add one shot I did for the Landscape project, also sunrise but a color version, just because I loved the color so much XD

Overall, shooting sunrise was a fun and exciting experience as one observes the light changed along with the colors. Depending on the weather you can have a variety of colors or not so much. The second picture above was taken at around the end of summer so it has a wider range of colors. Moreover, to match what the human eyes see to the camera lens is quite challenging as well 🙂

15 Minutes through the Lens

Outdoor project. Date taken: 10/8/2010

Location: Downtown Spartanburg, Morgan Square

In this project, we were to choose a spot in the middle of the square to take photographs and choose 5 strongest pieces.

I would have to say urban subject is not to my liking, but I found out there are things I sure can take picture of. Colors, lines, movement, etc all contribute to the nonstop lifestyle of people. (And again I have to put aside one more thing of my displeasure in taking urban pictures: People) XD

Photo 1/5: Up above

I enjoy the pure simplicity of this photograph. All I had to do was laying on the ground and looking at the traffic right behind me. Bull’s eye! I wonder what that white streak on the left was, but I do enjoy the diagonal line that leads to my subject.

Lightroom was used to fill in some lights so more of the traffic light could be seen. The color scheme is…shall I say, solid? =)

ISO 100, 47mm, f/7.1, 1/400 sec

Photo 2/5: Into the Sunlight

Yup I pointed the camera at the sun :), kind of… Well the focus is apparently not the building but the color relationship between the red light, the street sign and the stop light themselves. I only used Lightroom to push the saturation up a bit. I also kept the lens flare for some interest 🙂

ISO 100, 55mm, f/7.1, 1/200 sec

Photo 3/5: It’s Approaching!!

I found out that one of the most difficult thing to shoot in bright sun light was to evaluate the exposure through the LCD screen. Most pictures turned out underexposed because of that aspect.

In this photo I wish I could have lied down in the middle of the street and shoot the car for a better effect (but then again I did not want to lose my head XD). And to make up for that I tilted the camera a bit to create tension in the upper third of the photo.

ISO 100, 55mm, f/7.1, 1/640 sec

Photo 4/5: A Photographer in Action

ISO 100, 55mm, f/7.1, 1/400 sec

Look! It’s Justin!

In this photo I just wanted to capture the moment someone was so concentrated in his work that he was completely unaware of the surroundings. It would have been nice if there had been people behind him pointing and whispering at him XD. The trees add some perspective and the bottom third allows a space for the viewer to approach the subject 🙂

Photo 5/5: Towering

ISO 100, 55mm, f/7.1, 1/500 sec

The bell was underexposed so I used fill light to bring out the details. A little vignette to emphasize the focus onto the tower. I enjoy the fact that the subject is not completely centered, yet I am quite disappointed that it was a little too close to the left edge 😦
